Sumatra is a region in which these breed varieties grows. Because Sumatra is right next to the equator, its climate is very tropical. One minute the weather can be hot and humid, and the next it’s raining in sheets. In general, throughout the year in Sumatra temperature during the day remains the same between 70 and 86 degrees.
With all tropical climates, Sumatra has a rainy and dry season. The dry season lasts from May to September, but the wet season is harder to define as far as the forecast. The rain in the north begins in October. It is wettest in December and January through February. The warm waters of the ocean surrounding the archipelago ensure constant temperatures on land. There is little seasonal variation. Also, there is little difference in daylight hours from season to season.
The weather of Sumatra is typical for Indonesia; however, the temperatures can be lower than expected in the highlands. The slightly cooler and less humid highland climate can be a relief. It is good for hiking, and other adventures. The average daytime temperatures in Sumatra range from 72 degrees Fahrenheit to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. The rainfall differs from region to region with humidity high in the lowlands. Monsoons dominate the climate of Indonesia often causing damage, and make local travel difficult.
